Characteristics of Appendicitis Patients Who Underwent Operative Appendectomy at Waled Hospital, Cirebon Regency for the 2020–2025 Period

Appendicitis is one of the most common causes of acute abdominal pain requiring surgical intervention. The primary treatment is appendectomy, either by open or laparoscopic approach. Knowing the characteristics of patients undergoing appendectomy is essential to improve the quality of diagnosis and clinical management. To determine the characteristics of appendicitis patients undergoing operative appendectomy at Waled Regional Hospital, Cirebon Regency in the period 2020-2025 based on age, gender, main symptoms, and surgical procedures. This study is an observational descriptive study with a retrospective approach. Data were taken from medical records of appendicitis patients undergoing surgery at Waled Regional Hospital during the period January 2020 to June 2025. A total sample of 65 patients met the inclusion criteria. Most patients were in the late adolescent age group (17–25 years), which was 40.0%. The most common gender was female (75.4%). All patients (100%) came with the main symptom of right lower abdominal pain according to the Alvarado score. The most common operative procedure was performed by laparoscopy (66.2%). Most appendicitis patients were aged 17–25 years (26 patients (40.0%), and 49 patients (75.4%) were female. The primary symptom experienced by all 65 patients (100%) was right lower abdominal pain. Laparoscopic appendectomy was the most frequently performed procedure, occurring in 43 cases (66.2%).
